Hey Canberra art fans (and anyone who is willing to travel to ACT for art reasons)…there’s a really unique and cool interactive art experiment happening. If you’re intrigued (trust me – you should be), read on…

Object Therapy want your damaged and broken things!

You are invited to take part in a research and design project that investigates and celebrates the process of repair.
Often repaired objects are perceived as being of less value. Object Therapy seeks to challenge this preconception, celebrating repair as a creative process that can add value.

Call for entries open: Monday 16 May – Sunday 5 June
Applicants are invited to apply to take part in the project by completing the call for entries form. The call for entries is open to anyone who has a damaged or broken item that needs repair.

If you’re successful, Object Therapy will have you bring in your broken or damaged household items to Hotel Hotel on Sat 25 June between 10-4pm. You will be paired with a design researcher who will interview you to understand your relationship with the broken item and your perceptions of waste and repair. You will then be asked to ‘let go’ of the item to undergo ‘therapy’ – it will be given to a designer or an artist (you may even end up with AH featured designer, Dale Hardiman) for creative repair. The appearance and also possibly the function will be transformed as a part of the repair process.

After therapy, there will be a second set of interviews where you will be re-united with the transformed object. All objects from participants will then be collated to form a public exhibition at Hotel Hotel and in other cities. At the close of the exhibition series your transformed object will be returned to you.

Enter this unique, thought-provoking and wacky art/environment project (entries close June 5)!!
