Writer: Laura Imbruglia
ARTIST: Plastic
Ahead of their “Has Anyone Ever” single launch at Bar Open, Louis McDonald, frontman of Melb rock/noise-pop outfit Plastic undertakes the magical Amateur Hour Q&A and also takes over our youtube channel with a custom video mix for us 🙂
1. If you had to re-imagine your sound as a food, how would you describe it?
Probably some sort of pot-luck organised by a few people in their early-20s that work together but that don’t usually hang out outside of work and so decide to have a social gathering to get to know each other better and someone brings lamingtons (a highly overrated dessert) and chips, two people bring potato salad and one person just brings wine.
2. And as an animal?
Some species of flightless bird
3. And as a TV series character?
Dewey from Malcolm In The Middle
4. What’s one of your favourite musical moments? give us a youtube link and a precise point.
I cannot get past the chorus bassline in Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Time After Time’. Need I even put a time code in? You’ll KNOW.
At 1:50.
Either that OR every single second of Little Johnny Jewel by Television which leads me nicely to…
5. MINI MIX-TAPE
Make us a mini youtube mixtape!
6. THE GOOD SON GAME
Refer to this classic scene from “The Good Son”.
You have 2 great artists hanging over the edge of the cliff, and you have one hand hanging on to each of them. They’re both slipping. You need to let go of one artist to save the other, or lose them both. Time’s a-tickin’.
The one you drop will now only exist in your mind, you can never hear their songs again.
Who do you drop?
LED ZEPPELIN or QUEEN?
Oh geez well I’m so sorry for this Freddie but Led Zeppelin being the band they were to the awkward 12 year old me means I can’t live in a world where I can’t put on ‘No Quarter’ Live at Madison Square Garden from 1976 at full volume, there is just no room for compromise on that. Also I’m not 100% convinced on you Brian May.
7. What’s in your musical pipeline this year?
Well this upcoming Plastic EP ‘Air Conditioning’, and hopefully a Plastic record by the end of the year, if not early next year. I’m also working on an instrumental project but its all kind of up in the air right now so we’ll how where I’m at with that at the end of the year.
